Its name comes from the Arabic ‘yâsamîn’, itself borrowed from Persian. The sweet-smelling flower grows on an Indian shrub of the Oleaceae family. Cleopatra is said to have gone to meet Marc Antoine on a boat whose sails were coated with jasmine essence.
Prized in perfumery, white jasmine or Jasminum officinale gives off sweet floral notes.
It blooms all Summer long.
